Devas’ Hymn, Nandikeśvara’s Petition, and Śiva’s Rising from Samādhi
brahmovāca | evaṃ viśrāvya bhagavān mahādevo vṛṣadhvajaḥ | surān pravācayāmāsa vidhiviṣṇū tathā munīm
Brahma
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Role: teaching
The verse highlights Śiva as the supreme, authoritative Pati (Lord) who proclaims his will and then instructs even the Devas—showing that cosmic order and liberation-oriented guidance ultimately proceed from Mahādeva.
By naming him “Bhagavān Mahādeva” and “Vṛṣadhvaja,” the text points to Saguna Śiva—worshipped with attributes and forms (including the Liṅga)—who communicates grace and direction to beings within creation.
The practical takeaway is śravaṇa (reverent listening) and ājñā-anusaraṇa (following Śiva’s injunctions), commonly expressed in Shaiva practice through daily japa of the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and disciplined worship aligned with scriptural instruction.
