Concept: Ritual efficacy depends on right recipients and right timing; discernment (viveka) is itself a form of dharma.

Application: Choose ethical, disciplined, and learned persons for sacred hospitality; begin important duties at the proper time window rather than impulsively.

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A ritual courtyard is prepared for śrāddha: kuśa seats laid in a row, a clean water pot, and plates ready for feeding. A questioning disciple gestures toward two groups of twice-born—one serene and disciplined, another depicted with subtle signs of ineligibility—while the teacher indicates the sun’s position to mark the correct part of the day.","primary_figures":["Questioner (disciple)","Pulastya or a brahmavid teacher","Brāhmaṇas (eligible and excluded, shown respectfully)"],"setting":"Domestic courtyard or āśrama veranda with a visible sun-arc in the sky and ritual implements arranged in order.","lighting_mood":"golden dawn","color_palette":["warm gold","clean white","copper","earth brown","sky blue"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: śrāddha courtyard with symmetrical arrangement of kuśa seats and shining copper vessels; teacher-sage pointing to the sun’s position for proper timing; gold leaf detailing on vessels and halos, rich crimson borders, ornate yet dignified brāhmaṇa figures.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate courtyard scene with delicate linework; soft sunlight indicating the day’s segment; refined depiction of brāhmaṇas seated on kuśa mats, subtle narrative contrast between worthy and excluded without caricature; cool shadows and lyrical realism.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines and flat pigment fields; teacher instructing about eligibility and timing; stylized sun disc and ritual pots; strong red-yellow-green palette with temple-wall gravitas.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: decorative borders of lotus and geometric motifs; central panel shows orderly śrāddha seating and the sun’s arc; intricate floral patterns around plates and vessels, deep blue background with gold highlights."}

FAQs

It asks procedural dharma questions about śrāddha: which twice-born are eligible or ineligible to be fed, and the proper time of day to commence the rite for the ancestors.

Pitṛs are the departed ancestors who are ritually honored through śrāddha offerings, understood as recipients of remembrance, respect, and prescribed oblations.

In dharma literature, śrāddha is considered effective when performed with correct recipients (qualified invitees) and correct kāla (timing), since both are treated as essential conditions for ritual propriety and intended spiritual benefit.
