Adhyaya 76 — The Sixth Manvantara: Cakshusha Manu, the Child-Snatcher, and the Problem of Kinship
lekhasaṃjñās tathaivānye tatra manvantare dvija / pañcame ca gaṇe devās tatsaṃjñā hy amṛtāśinaḥ
The verse underscores the Purāṇic vision of ordered cosmic administration: even divine beings are grouped and named according to function and era, reflecting a structured cosmos rather than randomness.
Manvantara: it supplies details about the divine groups within a specific Manu’s reign.
‘Amṛta-eaters’ symbolizes deathlessness and continuity of cosmic order; the repeated ‘saṃjñā’ (designation) hints that names encode roles—mantra-like labels for cosmic functions.
