इन्द्रियाणां च पठचानां मनसो हृदयस्य च । विषये वर्तमानानां या प्रीतिरुपजायते
indriyāṇāṃ ca pañcānāṃ manaso hṛdayasya ca | viṣaye vartamānānāṃ yā prītir upajāyate
Вайшампаяна сказал: Когда пять чувств — вместе с умом и сердцем — обращаются к своим предметам, возникает наслаждение, рождаемое таким соприкосновением.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Pleasure (prīti) is shown as a product of contact and engagement: when the senses, mind, and heart operate in the domain of objects, enjoyment naturally arises. The ethical implication is that desire and attachment are not random—they are conditioned by where attention and the faculties are directed, so restraint and right orientation become central to dharma.
Vaiśampāyana is explaining, in a reflective/teaching context, how sensory engagement generates pleasure. The verse functions as a psychological observation supporting broader counsel about managing the senses and mind in the forest-life setting of the Vana Parva.
