Udyoga Parva, Chapter 81: Krishna Sets Out as Envoy
avasānaṁ mahābāho kaścid ekaṁ ca paṭhamaṁ | iti duryodhano vācyaḥ suhṛdaś cāsya keśava ||
Speech in moments of crisis should aim at a clear, decisive, ethically grounded conclusion (avasāna), not mere debate; even when confronting wrongdoing, one should speak with purposeful firmness while maintaining the stance of a well-wisher (suhṛt).
Vaiśaṃpāyana frames how Duryodhana should be addressed and highlights that Keśava (Kṛṣṇa), though opposing Duryodhana’s course, approaches him as a well-wisher, guiding the conversation toward a definitive settlement as the war approaches.
