Prāyaścitta-vidhāna: Tapas, Dāna, Vrata, and Proportional Expiation (प्रायश्चित्तविधानम्)

अनादेशे जपो होम उपवासस्तथैव च । आत्मज्ञानं पुण्यनद्यो यत्र प्रायश्व॒ तत्परा:

anādeśe japo homa upavāsas tathaiva ca | ātmajñānaṁ puṇyanadyo yatra prāyaścitta-tatparāḥ ||

Вьяса сказал: «Когда проступок возникает из деяния, для которого не предписано особое искупление, общие средства покаяния таковы: повторение священных формул (джапа), огненные возлияния (хома), пост, взращивание самопознания, омовение в святых реках и пребывание в местах, где многие добродетельные люди усердствуют в подвигах вроде джапы и хомы. Эти практики очищают и приносят заслугу: они смывают нравственную скверну и возвращают человека на путь дхармы».
