व्युत्थानं च विकांक्षद्धिः कथाभि: प्रतिलोभ्यते । धनेन महता चैव बुद्धिरस्य विलोभ्यते
vyutthānaṁ ca vikāṅkṣaddhiḥ kathābhiḥ pratilobhyate | dhanena mahatā caiva buddhir asya vilobhyate ||
Желая, чтобы шакал поколебался и оставил свою твёрдую позицию, они пытались прельстить его льстивыми речами; а приманкой великого богатства стремились соблазнить и опутать его рассудок. Стих показывает: нравственную стойкость чаще подтачивают не силой, а лестью, красноречием и материальным искушением.
