Duryodhana’s Post-Duel Lament and Instructions (भग्नसक्थस्य विलापः)
dharma-to nyāyataś caiva snehataś ca parantapa | mahāprājña! āp pāṇḍavopari doṣāropaṇa na kījiyegā | parantapa! dharma, nyāya aura sneha kī dṛṣṭi se mahātmā pāṇḍavoṃ kā ismeṃ thoṛā-sā bhī aparādha nahīṃ hai |
Moral evaluation should be multi-angled: dharma (righteous duty), nyāya (justice), and sneha (humane loyalty). When all three concur, one should refrain from unjust blame; here, the Pāṇḍavas are declared free of culpability.
Vaiśampāyana addresses a warrior (called ‘Parantapa’ and ‘Mahāprājña’) and urges him not to accuse the Pāṇḍavas. The speaker asserts that, by ethical, juridical, and relational standards, the Pāṇḍavas have no fault in the matter under discussion.
