The verse highlights fraternal loyalty expressed through righteous action in war: Arjuna acts with the intention of supporting Bhīma, showing that duty on the battlefield can include protecting and strengthening one’s allies, especially one’s kin, within the larger framework of the war’s obligations.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the warriors who were positioned and fighting against Bhīma were then effectively struck by Arjuna (called Bībhatsu). Arjuna’s motive is stated: he wishes to do what is pleasing to Bhīma by relieving pressure on him and harming his opponents.
