Śulka, Kanyā, and Dauhitra-Riktha: Discourse on Bride-Price and Inheritance Rights
lobham āsthāya yo ’smākaṁ viṣamaṁ kartum utsahet | vipulasya pare loke yā gatis tām avāpluyāt ||
Greed-driven dishonesty (viṣama) is condemned: one who resorts to lobha and acts unfairly incurs a grave posthumous consequence, exemplified by Vipula’s fate.
In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma, he warns his audience that any member of their community who dares to commit deceit out of greed will attain the same otherworldly destiny as the figure named Vipula, invoked as a cautionary example.
