cyavanaḥ kṛtavān etāvad aśvinau somapāyinau | tataḥ pratyāharat karma mardaṃ ca vyabhajan muniḥ ||
Dharma is upheld not by mere divine rank or force but by rightful order affirmed through tapas and truthful resolve; and ‘mada’ (intoxicating delusion) is a dangerous impulse that, when unrestrained, manifests through socially and ethically corrosive pursuits.
Cyavana declares that the Aśvins have been granted the status of Soma-drinkers; he then concludes the sacrificial action and describes the apportioning of ‘mada’—framed in the surrounding prose as being distributed into gambling, hunting, drinking, and sexual indulgence—after Indra accepts the sage’s command.
