Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ

Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony

vinā bhartrāṁ ca rudreṇa bhaviṣyati na saṁśayaḥ | vaṁśe tavaiva nāmnā tu khyātiṁ yāsyati cepsitām ||

Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes the certainty of a divinely sanctioned outcome: by Rudra’s power, an extraordinary result can occur even outside ordinary social conditions, and the resulting merit or renown will be anchored in one’s own lineage and name.

Vāsudeva assures a woman addressed as ‘Devi’ that, through Rudra, she will obtain a son even without a husband’s participation, and that the child will bring the desired fame connected with her own name within her lineage.
