Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
वृत्र इत्यभिविख्यातो यस्तु राजन् महासुर: । मणिमाजन्नाम राजर्षि: स बभूव नराधिप:
vṛtra ity abhivikhyāto yas tu rājan mahāsuraḥ | maṇimān nāma rājarṣiḥ sa babhūva narādhipaḥ ||
Вайшампаяна сказал: «О царь, тот могучий асур, прославленный именем Вритра, позднее стал человеческим правителем на земле и был воспет как царственный риши Маниман».
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights transformation across births and statuses: a being famed as an Asura can later appear as a human king-sage, suggesting the complex workings of karma and the fluidity of identity in epic history.
Vaiśampāyana informs the king that the renowned Asura Vṛtra later took birth on earth as a ruler, known among humans as the royal sage Maṇimān.
