Jaratkāru’s Conditional Marriage Vow and Vāsuki’s Offer
tasmāc carethāḥ satataṃ kṣamāśīlo jitendriyaḥ | kṣamayā prāpsyase lokān brahmaṇaḥ samanantarān ||
The verse teaches that true dharma is sustained by kṣamā (forgiveness/forbearance) joined with jitendriyatā (sense-control). By restraining reactive anger and practicing patient conduct, one becomes fit for higher spiritual attainments.
Śamīka is giving moral instruction, urging continual self-restraint and forgiveness, and linking this ethical discipline to the reward of reaching exalted realms near Brahmā—framing patience as both practical conduct and a path to spiritual elevation.
