Создав их, четверо божественных изрекли: «Даже действуя под побуждением того, что предписывают шастры, те, кто применяет их неверно и поступает неправедно, падают в страшный ад — снова и снова — на многие кальпы».
Narrative voice citing the utterance of the four deities (caturdevāḥ) after creation
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: karuna
Indirectly: it implies that mere external conformity to scriptural injunctions, without right understanding and inner purity, does not liberate; realization aligned with dharma is required to avoid repeated suffering.
The verse cautions that action must be guided by discernment (viveka) and right intention; in the Kurma Purana’s broader yogic frame (including Pashupata-oriented discipline), inner restraint and correct understanding must accompany śāstra-based practice.
Though not explicit here, the teaching aligns with the Kurma Purana’s synthesis: true dharma and yoga transcend sectarian labels—scripture must be applied with realized wisdom, a principle upheld across both Shaiva and Vaishnava paths in the text.
