It teaches a varṇa-nirukti mapping: specific Sanskrit vowels are assigned semantic/deity correspondences (e.g., ṛ with sound/Aditi; e with Devī; au with Maheśvara), useful for mantra interpretation and esoteric phonetic symbolism.
Alongside ritual, polity, medicine, and arts, the Agni Purana also preserves technical linguistic material—phonetics and symbolic semantics of letters—showing its wide scope across śāstras, including vyākaraṇa and mantra-oriented hermeneutics.
By linking sounds (vowels) with deities, the verse frames speech as sacred; correct understanding and use of phonemes in recitation supports purity of mantra, devotional focus, and the intended spiritual efficacy of prayer and ritual.
