FAQs

It gives a technical vyākaraṇa/phonetics rule: how certain pa-varga-based consonants (named here as lalitā, balabhūyiṣṭhā, prauṭā) combine when repha ‘r’ is written/placed above, specifying association with the non-nasal letters of the ṭa-varga.

Beyond theology and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves practical linguistic science—letter-group taxonomy and orthographic combination rules—showing its coverage of śāstric disciplines like vyākaraṇa and śikṣā alongside dharma and pūjā.

Accurate pronunciation and correct written formation of sounds support precise mantra recitation and textual preservation; such correctness is traditionally held to maintain ritual efficacy and reduce errors (doṣa) in sacred transmission.
