Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Cosmology","secondary_vidya":"Avatara-Katha","practical_application":"Use the pralaya model to contextualize cyclical time (kalpa, pralaya) in Purana study and ritual calendars; supports theological framing for avatara narratives that arise to restore dharma after dissolution.","sutra_style":false}

FAQs

It imparts cosmological terminology—especially the definition of naimittika (occasional) pralaya associated with Brahmā—used for classifying types of dissolution in Purāṇic time-reckoning.

By cataloging technical categories of time and dissolution (kalpa, naimittika laya, lokas), it exemplifies the Agni Purana’s compendium-style coverage of cosmology alongside its many other disciplines.

It underscores impermanence at a cosmic scale—worlds themselves are withdrawn—encouraging detachment (vairāgya) and orientation toward dharma and liberation rather than transient worldly security.
