Mahabharata 7.21.44

क्रूरां शरीरसंघट्टां सादिनक्रां दुरत्ययाम्‌ । द्रोण: प्रावर्तयत्‌ तत्र नदीमन्तकगामिनीम्‌

sañjaya uvāca | krūrāṃ śarīrasaṃghaṭṭāṃ sādinakrāṃ duratyayām | droṇaḥ prāvartayat tatra nadīm antakagāminīm ||

Sañjaya said: There, Droṇa set in motion a cruel river of battle—choked with crushed bodies, infested with crocodiles and other beasts, and almost impossible to cross—a river that carried men toward Antaka (Death) itself. The image frames the battlefield not as heroic sport but as a moral catastrophe: war, once unleashed, becomes a current that drags both sides toward ruin, regardless of valor or intent.
