प्रतीपस्तत्सुतः साधुः सर्वशीलवतां वरः । देवापौ च गते स्वर्गं ज्येष्ठभ्रातरमग्रजम् । संत्यक्त्वा जगृहे राज्यं शंतनुस्तत्सुतोऽवरः

pratīpastatsutaḥ sādhuḥ sarvaśīlavatāṃ varaḥ | devāpau ca gate svargaṃ jyeṣṭhabhrātaramagrajam | saṃtyaktvā jagṛhe rājyaṃ śaṃtanustatsuto'varaḥ

“Seu filho foi Pratīpa, homem virtuoso, o melhor entre os de nobre conduta. E quando Devāpi, o irmão mais velho, partiu para o céu, Śaṃtanu—o filho mais novo de Pratīpa—pôs de lado o primogênito e tomou para si a realeza.”
