Kṛṣṇādi-Śivabhaktoddhāraṇa & Śiva-māhātmya-varṇana
Deliverance of Krishna and other devotees; Description of Shiva’s Greatness

Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Śirasā-praṇāma to the guru/ṛṣi is treated as a qualifying act (adhikāra-lakṣaṇa) for receiving Śiva-māhātmya—grace flows through humility and truthful narration.
It highlights humility and śaraṇāgati (reverent surrender) before a realized sage; truthful narration to a guru becomes a means for right understanding and Shaiva dharma to unfold.
By approaching Upamanyu with reverence and reporting the events, the devotee aligns with the guru-led path central to Saguna Shiva worship, where instruction, narrative, and ritual guidance transmit devotion to Śiva.
The implied practice is guru-vandana (bowing to the teacher) and śravaṇa (listening/relating sacred accounts) as preparatory disciplines that support mantra-japa and disciplined Shiva worship.
