Kṛṣṇādi-Śivabhaktoddhāraṇa & Śiva-māhātmya-varṇana
Deliverance of Krishna and other devotees; Description of Shiva’s Greatness
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse presents a Shaiva ethical vow: hatred is a binding pasha (bond), while reverence to the virtuous, service to the learned, and pleasing one’s parents purify the heart, making it fit for Shiva-bhakti and grace (anugraha).
In Shiva Purana practice, outer worship of the Linga is supported by inner worship—non-hatred, humility, and honoring dharmic authorities. Such conduct stabilizes devotion to Saguna Shiva and prepares one for deeper realization of Shiva as Pati.
A practical takeaway is daily sankalpa (resolve) before Shiva-puja: renounce dveṣa, offer respect/service to elders and the learned, and seek parents’ blessings—then continue japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a purified attitude.
