Inquiry into the Impurity of the Body
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
It teaches that external austerities like food-restraint are meaningful only when aimed at purifying the inner triad of impurities—desire and allied passions—so the mind becomes fit for Shiva-realization (Pati) beyond pasha (bondage).
Linga-worship requires inner purity and steadiness; this verse links sense-discipline (especially taste and craving) to making the mind one-pointed, so devotion to Saguna Shiva ripens into contemplative absorption and grace.
Practice moderation and sāttvika simplicity in diet, reduce indulgent foods that stimulate craving, and pair it with japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and steady meditation to uproot kama and related disturbances.
