FAQs

The verse highlights Shiva as duḥkha-hartā (remover of suffering) and gati-prada (giver of the soul’s true refuge). In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, it points to Pati (Shiva) granting grace that lifts the pashu (bound soul) beyond distress and restores dharmic well-being.

Calling Shiva the giver of gati reflects reliance on Saguna Shiva—approached through devotion and worship (often centered on the Shiva-linga). The narrative tone supports the Purāṇic teaching that heartfelt surrender and worship invite Shiva’s protective, rescuing grace.

A practical takeaway is to seek Shiva as duḥkha-hartā by japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple linga-pūjā with water and bilva leaves, dedicating the practice for relief from sorrow and for right direction (gati).
