yo drakṣyati sakāmo māṃ puruṣastasya pauruṣam | nāśaṃ gamiṣyati tadā sa ca klībo bhaviṣyati

It warns that approaching the Divine Feminine with kāma (lust) is a misuse of perception; such a fall in inner discipline destroys one’s tejas and dharmic strength, blocking higher devotion and liberation.
Shaiva worship requires śuddha-bhāva (purified intent): seeing the deity—whether Śiva as Liṅga or the manifest Devī—should be with reverence and bhakti, not objectifying desire, otherwise the mind turns away from grace (anugraha).
Practice indriya-nigraha (sense-restraint) and brahmacarya in thought; support it with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and steady dhyāna that trains the gaze and mind toward devotion rather than craving.
