Kumāra’s Departure to Mount Krāuñca
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Jyotirlinga: Mallikārjuna
Sthala Purana: The Mallikārjuna Jyotirliṅga is praised as sin-destroying by mere darśana, emphasizing Śiva’s accessibility and salvific grace at Śrīśaila.
Significance: Darśana is said to remove pāpa/impurities and grant desired ends; in Siddhānta terms, it weakens pāśa (bondage) and turns the paśu toward Pati through anugraha.
Role: liberating
The verse teaches the purifying power of Śiva-liṅga darśana: sincere beholding of the Liṅga dissolves karmic impurity (kilbiṣa) and aligns the bound soul (paśu) toward Śiva (Pati), making the heart fit for grace and liberation.
It affirms Saguna worship through the Liṅga as a direct means of receiving Śiva’s grace. The Liṅga is the accessible form through which devotees perform darśana and devotion, leading to both worldly fulfilment and the higher aim of moksha.
Practice reverent Liṅga-darśana with bhakti—visit a Jyotirlinga or a consecrated Śiva shrine, offer water and bilva leaves, and inwardly remember Śiva with the pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while taking darśana.
