Description of Śiva Meditation and Worship

Primeiro, com a recitação do Praṇava (Oṁ), deve-se consagrar o próprio ser e também os artigos de pūjā, como fragrâncias e flores; e então santificar o assento de lótus, especialmente o lótus ligado à direção Īśāna (nordeste).
Suta Goswami (narrating the Kailāsa teachings as a Shaiva ritual instruction)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Significance: Internal and external consecration (ātma-śuddhi + dravya-śuddhi) aligns the worshipper and the worship-space with Īśāna (northeast), the auspicious Śiva-direction, supporting successful dhyāna and pūjā.
Mantra: Praṇava (Oṃ) is explicitly required as the preface; the verse implies praṇava-pūrvaka śuddhi/saṃskāra of self, implements, and the Īśāna-direction lotus of the padma-maṇḍala.
Type: panchakshara
Role: teaching
It teaches that Shiva-worship begins with inner consecration: purifying the worshipper and the offerings through Praṇava (Oṁ), aligning outer ritual with inner śuddhi so devotion becomes a means toward grace and liberation.
In Saguna Shiva worship, the Linga-puja is supported by correct nyāsa/saṅkalpa-like sanctification: the self, the substances (gandha, puṣpa), and the sacred space/direction (Īśāna) are ritually made fit to receive Shiva’s presence.
Begin puja by reciting Oṁ (Praṇava), mentally purifying yourself and the puja items; then establish the lotus-seat/mandala with attention to the Īśāna (northeast) orientation—an instruction that can be applied as a brief meditative centering before Linga worship.
