Este breve hino cosmogônico acompanha o desdobramento ordenado da criação: do tapas (calor criador) surgem Ṛta e Satya, depois a Noite e o Oceano cósmico, e daí o Ano que mede dias e noites. Ele culmina com Dhātṛ, o Ordenador, dispondo o Sol e a Lua e estabelecendo os mundos em camadas — céu, terra, espaço intermediário e svah —, afirmando que o cosmos se assenta numa ordem inteligível.

Mantra 1
ऋतं च सत्यं चाभीद्धात्तपसोऽध्यजायत । ततो रात्र्यजायत ततः समुद्रो अर्णवः ॥
Do acender do tapas, o ardor interior, nasceram Ṛta, a Ordem cósmica, e Satya, a Verdade; daí nasceu a Noite, e daí o Oceano, o abismo imenso.

समुद्रादर्णवादधि संवत्सरो अजायत । अहोरात्राणि विदधद्विश्वस्य मिषतो वशी ॥
Do oceano, da profundeza, da vaga que se ergue nasceu o Ano. Ele, poder soberano, ordenou os dias e as noites para tudo o que se move no universo.
Mantra 3
सूर्याचन्द्रमसौ धाता यथापूर्वमकल्पयत् । दिवं च पृथिवीं चान्तरिक्षमथो स्वः ॥
O Sol e a Lua, Dhātar os ordenou segundo o arquétipo primeiro; e fixou-lhes as moradas — o céu e a terra, o espaço do meio, e também Svar, o domínio supremo de luz.
