The verse prescribes that the student should be properly equipped (with staff and related requisites), maintain purity (śauca) and good conduct (ācāra), and begin recitation only when summoned by the teacher.
It signals attentiveness, humility, and readiness to receive instruction—an embodied marker of the guru-śiṣya discipline where learning is guided directly by the teacher.
Learning is not merely intellectual; it requires self-discipline, cleanliness, respectful demeanor, and obedience to proper procedure under a qualified teacher.
