Pativratā (a devoted wife)

Concept: Prioritize ongoing worship and household dharma; practice hospitality without violating one’s role-bound responsibilities.

Application: When engaged in prayer or service, maintain boundaries kindly; offer what you can now (respect, welcome), and complete other tasks at the right time.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: karuna

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A composed pativratā stands at the threshold with a respectful gesture, while inside the house her husband’s worship continues before a small altar. She offers water and a seat to the guest, her face calm—balancing devotion, duty, and hospitality.","primary_figures":["pativratā (devoted wife)","husband engaged in pūjā (gṛhastha)","brāhmaṇa guest"],"setting":"Interior courtyard with a low altar, conch and bell, incense smoke, and a tulasi planter near the doorway; guest welcomed at the entrance mat.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["smoke-gray","lamp-gold","leaf green","vermillion","pearl white"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: pativratā at the doorway offering arghya and a seat to a brāhmaṇa guest; behind her, husband performs Vishnu pūjā with conch and lamp; heavy gold leaf on the lamp flame and altar ornaments, rich reds/greens, jewel-like detailing.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate domestic scene with delicate textiles; the woman’s restrained posture conveys dharma; soft incense haze, small tulasi pot, gentle architectural lines, cool pastel shadows.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized pativratā with large expressive eyes, husband in pūjā posture before a glowing lamp; bold outlines, earthy pigments, rhythmic composition like a temple panel.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: doorway hospitality framed by lotus borders; tulasi motifs and hanging garlands; deep indigo background with gold highlights, peacock-feather border elements, devotional domestic calm."}

FAQs

It balances two duties: respecting the husband’s ongoing worship and still honoring the guest through hospitality (ātithya), even if other actions must wait.

The speaker presents herself as not acting independently while her husband is engaged in ritual, showing deference to household order and marital duty, yet she remains responsible for righteous conduct like welcoming guests.

Indirectly: it acknowledges the priority and seriousness of arcā (worship), while framing daily ethics—like hospitality—as part of lived dharma alongside religious observance.
