The Greatness of Hari’s Janmāṣṭamī (Jayantī) Vow

Concept: Sunrise-based tithi determination overrides nakṣatra considerations here: observe Navamī-saṃyuktā Aṣṭamī even without nakṣatra checking; if at sunrise Aṣṭamī exists even slightly while Navamī is otherwise complete, that conjunction is valid.

Application: For vrata planning, prioritize udaya-tithi (sunrise tithi) and the tradition’s hierarchy of factors; don’t overcomplicate with secondary parameters when śāstra says they’re unnecessary.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"At the first blush of dawn, the sun crests the horizon while a thin sliver of Aṣṭamī is shown as a delicate crescent overlaying a fuller Navamī disk in a symbolic sky-diagram. A devotee stands on a ghat with a water pot, ready to begin the vrata at the exact udaya moment, as a sage gestures to the rising sun as the final authority.","primary_figures":["devotee observer","sage (ācārya)","personified Sūrya as a radiant disk","subtle Tithi-devis (Aṣṭamī and Navamī)"],"setting":"River ghat at sunrise with steps, small shrine, and a clear eastern horizon; a pañcāṅga board rests on a low wooden stand.","lighting_mood":"golden dawn","color_palette":["dawn gold","rose saffron","river teal","white conch-shell","smoky violet"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: sunrise over a ghat with gold leaf rays, devotee holding a kalaśa, sage pointing to a palm-leaf pañcāṅga, stylized tithi disks in the sky, ornate temple arch at the side, rich reds and greens with gem-like highlights on ornaments and borders.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: serene dawn gradient, delicate river reflections, small figures with refined expressions, a subtle diagram of overlapping tithis painted like translucent moons, soft pastel saffron and cool teal palette, lyrical birds in flight.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines of the rising sun and overlapping tithi symbols, warm yellow-red pigments, devotee and sage in temple-wall composition, rhythmic wave motifs for the river, decorative floral bands framing the scene.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central sunrise medallion with overlapping moon-disks, lotus border and tulasi vine motifs, peacocks at corners, deep blue-to-saffron gradient cloth, gold detailing emphasizing the udaya threshold, small Viṣṇu śaṅkha-cakra emblem above."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"serene","sound_elements":["dawn birds","flowing water","soft bell","conch at sunrise","gentle silence between phrases"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: ऋक्षेऽपि → ऋक्षे + अपि; नवमीसंयुताष्टमी → नवमीसंयुता + अष्टमी; चाष्टमी → च + अष्टमी; किंचित्सकला → किञ्चित् + सकला.

FAQs

It gives a dharma-rule for deciding an observance based on tithi at sunrise: if Aṣṭamī touches sunrise even slightly while Navamī is fully present, the Aṣṭamī conjoined with Navamī is to be observed, even without nakṣatra consideration.

No. It explicitly says the observance is to be done even without (vinā) the nakṣatra factor.

It emphasizes disciplined adherence to scriptural time-determination (tithi at sunrise) rather than personal preference, aiming for consistency and correctness in vrata observance.
