Concept: One’s own pāpa ripens into prolonged suffering; yet a single moment of honest confrontation can open the door to repentance and reform.

Application: Own your mistakes without self-justifying: name the harm, accept consequences, and seek a concrete corrective path (service, restraint, restitution, regulated worship).

Primary Rasa: karuna

FAQs

It links prolonged suffering to one’s own past sinful actions (pāpa-karma) and highlights the pain caused by contemptuous or harsh speech.

It emphasizes personal responsibility: the speaker explicitly attributes his condition to his own pāpa-karma (sinful deeds).

That insulting or contemptuous speech (paribhāṣā) is deeply wounding, and respectful speech is a key aspect of dharmic conduct.
