Concept: Śravaṇa of a devotee’s/virtuous person’s mahātmyam awakens joy and strengthens dharma; appreciation of virtue is itself transformative.

Application: Regularly hear and reflect on uplifting narratives (purana-katha, lives of the virtuous); let admiration become imitation—translate inspiration into conduct.

Primary Rasa: shringara

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"The husband, eyes shimmering and trembling with joy, turns toward his wife as if seeing her anew—her virtue now crowned by the testimony of the gods. They stand together in a quiet embrace of shared dharma, while the background glows softly, as though the very air has become auspicious.","primary_figures":["Husband (dharmātmā)","Wife (whose conduct is praised)","Subtle celestial witnesses (optional, faint)"],"setting":"A serene hermitage courtyard or temple threshold, with a small lamp, garlands, and a calm open sky; intimacy framed by sacred simplicity.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["lamp gold","deep maroon","sandalwood beige","night blue","soft green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: the couple centered, the husband’s eyes wide with joyful tears, hands gently joined with his wife’s; gold-leaf aura around them, ornate yet intimate setting with a small lamp and lotus motifs, rich reds and greens, delicate jewelry and textile patterns.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: tender domestic-sacred scene in a quiet courtyard, the husband gazing at his wife with trembling joy; cool night blues with warm lamp glow, delicate brushwork capturing emotion, minimal ornament, lyrical trees and a small shrine in the corner.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: expressive wide eyes and bold outlines, the couple in a dignified pose of shared dharma; warm lamp glow rendered in ochres and reds, stylized floral borders, temple-wall intimacy with symbolic lotus and conch motifs.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: the couple framed by ornate floral borders and hanging garlands, a central lamp and lotus motifs; deep indigo background with gold highlights, peacocks at corners, textile-like patterning emphasizing auspicious joy."}

FAQs

It depicts the husband’s inner change after hearing of his wife’s wondrous virtue—he becomes delighted and visibly overwhelmed, with eyes agitated by joy.

By praising “āścarita-māhātmya” (the glory of exemplary conduct) and calling the husband “dharmātmā,” it frames marital companionship as a shared space where virtue inspires and elevates both partners.

Recognize and rejoice in genuine virtue: hearing of noble conduct should lead to appreciation, moral uplift, and supportive togetherness rather than indifference or envy.
