The Greatness of the Month of Māgha
Māgha-snāna, Harivāsara, and the Kāṣṭhīlā-Upākhyāna
Sanatkumara (in dialogue with Nārada; addressing a देवी/स्त्री recipient of the teaching)
Vrata: Dvādaśī
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It stresses that a Vaiṣṇava vrata like Dvādaśī must be performed strictly “according to śāstra,” and it also teaches karmic continuity—merit and samskāras from vows can carry across births.
By highlighting Dvādaśī as a prescribed devotional observance, the verse frames bhakti as disciplined worship guided by scripture, not merely personal preference, and rooted in long-standing devotion across lifetimes.
The practical takeaway is ritual procedure and calendrical correctness: observing Dvādaśī “as per śāstra” implies proper tithi-based timing (linked with Jyotiṣa/astronomical calculation) and correct vrata-vidhi.
