The Exposition of the Dvādaśī Vow for the Twelve Months
Dvādaśī-vrata-nirṇaya and Mahā-dvādaśī Lakṣaṇas
नीराजनव्रतं चात्र गदितं तन्निबोध मे । सुप्तोत्थितं जगन्नाथमलंकृत्य निशागमे ॥ ३९ ॥
nīrājanavrataṃ cātra gaditaṃ tannibodha me | suptotthitaṃ jagannāthamalaṃkṛtya niśāgame || 39 ||
Aqui também se ensina o voto do Nīrājana—compreende-o de mim. Ao cair da noite, depois de adornar Jagannātha como o Senhor que desperta do sono, deve-se realizar o rito.
Narada
Vrata: Nīrājana-vrata
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It frames ārati (nīrājana) as a vrata—an intentional devotional discipline—performed at nightfall, emphasizing reverent service to Jagannātha through adornment and worship.
Bhakti is expressed through intimate seva: treating the Lord as personally present—awakening, adorning, and worshipping Him at the proper time—so devotion becomes a lived daily practice rather than mere belief.
The verse primarily highlights ritual timing and procedure (kalā/ācāra in worship practice) rather than a specific Vedāṅga; it points to the importance of performing nīrājana at niśāgama (evening/nightfall) with proper alaṅkāra (adornment).
