Adhyaya 89 — The Wrath of Shumbha and Nishumbha and the Fall of Nishumbha
छिन्नॆ चर्मणि खड्गे च शक्तिं चिक्षेप सोऽसुरः ।
तामप्यस्य द्विधा चक्रे चक्रेणाभिमुखागताम् ॥
chinne carmaṇi khaḍge ca śaktiṃ cikṣepa so 'suraḥ |
tām apy asya dvidhā cakre cakreṇābhimukhāgatām ||
Quando seu escudo e sua espada foram decepados, aquele Asura arremessou uma lança; mas o disco da Deusa a partiu em duas quando vinha direto contra ela.

Escalation of violence does not overcome truth-force (śakti). The Devi’s response is not merely stronger aggression but a precise neutralization—skillful action (kauśala) aligned with dharma.
This is didactic mythic narrative rather than cosmology/genealogy; it supports the Purana’s dharma-teaching through exemplum.
The chakra represents the wheel of cosmic order (ṛta/dharma) and discriminative completeness. Splitting the incoming śakti suggests that undirected, ego-driven ‘power’ is divided and rendered ineffective by higher order and discernment.
