Adhyaya 80 — Vaivasvata Manvantara: Enumeration of Manus and the Eighth Manu Sāvarṇi
Authority is legitimized through lineage and cosmological ‘office’: the Purāṇic worldview ties governance of time-cycles to progenitor lines, implying continuity of dharma through sanctioned descent.
Vaṃśa/Manvantara: it combines genealogical anchoring (vaṃśa) with manvantara rulership (manvantara).
Marīci (‘ray of light’) and Kaśyapa (cosmic progenitor) encode a symbolic origin: the ‘chief’ devas arise from primordial light and generative order—metaphors for the emergence of lawful cosmic administration.
