Dhanaṃjaya’s Reassurance and the Opening Engagement
तत: कामगमं दिव्यं सर्वरत्नविभूषितम् । विमान देवराजस्य शुशुभे खेचरं तदा
tataḥ kāmagamaṃ divyaṃ sarvaratnavibhūṣitam | vimānaṃ devarājasya śuśubhe khecaraṃ tadā ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana disse: “Então, entre aquelas carruagens aéreas, o vimāna de Indra, rei dos deuses, que singrava o céu, brilhou com esplendor incomparável. Era um veículo divino que se movia conforme o desejo, adornado com toda espécie de joias—imagem da soberania celeste e do poder sem esforço que acompanha o mérito divino.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse uses Indra’s wish-moving, jewel-adorned vimāna as a symbol of divine sovereignty and the fruits of merit: true power and radiance are portrayed as arising from a higher order (dharma and puṇya), not merely from human effort.
Vaiśaṃpāyana describes a scene featuring celestial vehicles; among them, Indra’s sky-ranging vimāna stands out as the most splendid, characterized by its ability to move at will and its rich jewel adornment.
