Chapter 55

पतन्त्यरूपेषु यथा चक्षूंषि न कदाचन । नालक्ष्येषु शरा: पेतुस्तथा गाण्डीवधन्वन:,जैसे आँखें रूपहीन पदार्थोपर कभी नहीं पड़तीं, उसी प्रकार गाण्डीवधारी अर्जुनके बाण उन व्यक्तियोंपर नहीं पड़ते थे, जो उनके बाणोंके लक्ष्य नहीं थे (अर्थात्‌ जिन्हें वे अपने बाणोंका निशाना नहीं बनाना चाहते थे।)

vaishampāyana uvāca | patanty arūpeṣu yathā cakṣūṃṣi na kadācana | nālakṣyeṣu śarāḥ petus tathā gāṇḍīvadhanvanaḥ ||

Disse Vaiśampāyana: Assim como os olhos jamais pousam sobre aquilo que não tem forma para ser visto, do mesmo modo as flechas de Arjuna, o portador do Gāṇḍīva, não caíam sobre aqueles que não eram seus alvos. O verso ressalta uma maestria disciplinada na guerra: poder governado pela intenção, não por violência indiscriminada.
