Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 22 — Draupadī’s Abduction Attempt and Bhīma’s Suppression of the Kīcakas
त॑ सम्मथितसर्वाजू मांसपिण्डोपमं कृतम् | कृष्णाया दर्शयामास भीमसेनो महाबल:,महाबली भीमने उसका सारा शरीर मथ डाला और उसे मांसका लोंदा-सा बना दिया। इसके बाद उन्होंने द्रौपदीको दिखाया
taṁ sammathita-sarvāṅgaṁ māṁsa-piṇḍopamaṁ kṛtam | kṛṣṇāyā darśayāmāsa bhīmaseno mahābalaḥ ||
Disse Vaiśampāyana: Bhīmasena, de grande poder, esmagou todos os seus membros e reduziu-o a algo como um naco de carne; depois mostrou o corpo dilacerado a Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī).
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical tension in epic dharma: protecting the vulnerable and defending honor may demand force, yet such force is morally weighty and must be understood as a response to grave adharma rather than mere personal rage.
Bhīma has violently subdued an offender, crushing his body until it resembles a lump of flesh, and then presents the result to Draupadī (Kṛṣṇā), signaling that her humiliation has been answered and that the Pandavas are actively safeguarding her dignity.
