Agastya–Lopāmudrā: Marriage, Austerity, and Conditions for Conjugal Union (लोमशकथितम्)
ऊषुराप्लुत्य गात्राणि तपश्चातस्थुरुत्तमम् । गड्ायमुनयोश्रैव संगमे सत्यसंगरा:,भारत! भूपाल! वहाँ देवताओं, पितरों तथा ब्राह्मणोंको बार-बार तृप्त करके कन््यातीर्थ, अश्वतीर्थ, गोतीर्थ, कालकोटि तथा वृषप्रस्थगिरिमें निवास करते हुए उन सब पाण्डवोंने बाहुदा नदीमें स्नान किया। पृथ्वीपते! तदनन्तर उन्होंने देवताओंकी यज्ञभूमि प्रयागमें पहुँचकर वहाँ गंगा-यमुनाके संगममें स्नान किया। सत्यप्रतिज्ञ पाण्डव वहाँ स्नान करके कुछ दिनोंतक उत्तम तपस्यामें लगे रहे
Vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca: ūṣuḥ āplutya gātrāṇi tapaś ca ātasthuḥ uttamam | gaṅgā-yamunayor eva saṅgame satya-saṅgarāḥ, bhārata |
Disse Vaiśaṃpāyana: Tendo-se banhado e revigorado os membros, os Pāṇḍavas empreenderam uma austeridade excelente. Ó Bhārata, firmes na verdade e constantes em seus votos, permaneceram na confluência do Gaṅgā e do Yamunā.
वैशग्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights purification and self-discipline as dharmic responses to adversity: bathing at a sacred confluence and undertaking tapas symbolize inner restraint, truthfulness, and ethical steadiness rather than despair or impulsive action.
The Pāṇḍavas reach the Gaṅgā–Yamunā confluence (Prayāga), bathe there, and then remain for some time practicing excellent austerities; Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates this as part of their forest-exile pilgrimage sequence.
