Avanti–Narmadā–Puṣkara Tīrtha-Kathana (धौम्यकथितं तीर्थवर्णनम्)
गड्जा यत्र नदी पुण्या यस्यास्तीरे भगीरथ: । अयजतू तत्र बहुभि: क्रतुभिर्भूरिदक्षिणै:,'पूर्वदिशामें ही पुण्यनदी गड़ा बहती है, जिसके तटपर राजा भगीरथने प्रचुर दक्षिणावाले बहुत-से यज्ञोंका अनुष्ठान किया था
gaḍjā yatra nadī puṇyā yasyāstīre bhagīrathaḥ | ayajatū tatra bahubhiḥ kratubhir bhūridakṣiṇaiḥ ||
Disse Vaiśampāyana: “Na região oriental corre o rio sagrado Gaḍjā; em sua margem o rei Bhagīratha outrora realizou muitos sacrifícios, cada qual dotado de dádivas abundantes.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic kingship: sacred rites should be performed with purity of place and with generosity—abundant dakṣiṇā—so that ritual action becomes ethically meaningful and socially sustaining.
The narrator points to a holy eastern river, Gaḍjā, and recalls that King Bhagīratha performed many richly endowed sacrifices on its bank, establishing the site’s sanctity and exemplary royal conduct.
