Educational Q&A

The passage teaches that disciplined pilgrimage—approaching tīrthas with restraint, regulated living, and reverence—yields spiritual merit comparable to major gifts and Vedic sacrifices, emphasizing ethical self-control as integral to religious practice.

A speaker named Ghulastya guides the king through a sequence of sacred sites, describing the specific fruits (phala) gained by bathing or staying at each tīrtha—ranging from the merit of cow-gifts and Aśvamedhas to attaining the Nāga realm and personal beauty.
