तस्या: कौतूहलं त्वासीन्मन्त्रं प्रति नराधिप । आह्वानमकरोत् साथ तस्य देवस्य भाविनी,नरेश्वर! उन्हें देखकर कुन्तीके मनमें अपने मन्त्रकी शक्तिकी परीक्षा करनेके लिये कौतूहल पैदा हुआ। तब उस सुन्दरी राजकन्याने सूर्यदेवका आवाहन किया
tasyāḥ kautūhalaṃ tv āsīn mantraṃ prati narādhipa | āhvānam akarot sātha tasya devasya bhāvinī ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana disse: Ó rei, o coração de Kuntī foi tomado pela curiosidade quanto ao poder de seu mantra. Desejando pô-lo à prova, a nobre princesa então invocou aquele deus—o próprio Sūrya—e assim deu início a um momento cujas consequências moldariam sua vida e as tensões morais de seu futuro.
