Sūrya’s Counsel to Karṇa on Indra’s Intended Request
Kuṇḍala–Kavaca Discourse
सागरक्रमणे मन्त्र मन्त्रयाम: परंतप । परंतप! उसकी यह बात सुनकर हमलोग तुरंत उठे और समुद्र पार करनेके विषयमें परस्पर सलाह करने लगे
sāgarakramaṇe mantra mantra-yāmaḥ parantapa | parantapa! asyāḥ kathāyāḥ śrutvā vayam-āśu utthāya samudra-pāra-karaṇe viṣaye parasparaṃ mantrayituṃ pravṛttāḥ |
Disse Mārkaṇḍeya: “Ó Parantapa, flagelo dos inimigos, deliberamos sobre os meios de atravessar o oceano. Ó Parantapa! Ao ouvir as palavras dela, levantamo-nos de imediato e começámos a aconselhar-nos entre nós sobre como transpor o mar.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The passage highlights prudent action: when faced with a formidable obstacle, one should respond promptly yet thoughtfully—rising to the task and engaging in collective counsel rather than acting rashly.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that, after hearing a woman’s statement, the group immediately gets up and begins discussing among themselves the plan and means for crossing the ocean.
