Chapter 270: Slaying of Prahasta; Defeat of Dhūmrākṣa; Awakening of Kumbhakarṇa
कि रोदिषि त्वं पतिता धरण्यां कि ते मुखं शुष्यति दीनवर्णम् कच्चिन्न पापै: सुनृशंसकद्धिः प्रमाथिता द्रौपदी राजपुत्री,तू इस प्रकार धरतीपर पड़ी क्यों रो रही है? तेरा मुँह दीन होकर क्यों सूख रहा है? कहीं अत्यन्त निष्ठुर कर्म करनेवाले पापी कौरवोंने यहाँ आकर राजकुमारी द्रौपदीका तिरस्कार तो नहीं किया?
ki rodiṣi tvaṁ patitā dharaṇyāṁ ki te mukhaṁ śuṣyati dīna-varṇam | kaccin na pāpaiḥ sunṛśaṁsa-karmabhiḥ pramāthitā draupadī rāja-putrī ||
«Por que choras, caída ao chão? Por que teu rosto secou e empalideceu de aflição? Teria Draupadī, a princesa, sido ultrajada e humilhada aqui pelos Kauravas pecadores—homens de feitos absolutamente cruéis?»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames cruelty toward the vulnerable—especially the humiliation of a woman of royal stature—as a grave ethical violation, implicitly contrasting ruthless conduct (sunṛśaṁsa-karman) with dharma and human dignity.
The speaker, Vaiśampāyana, observes a woman (identified as Draupadī) collapsed on the ground and crying, and anxiously asks whether the Kauravas have come and subjected her to harsh mistreatment and insult.
