Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Sacrifice Commences and the Pandavas’ Reply to the Invitation
ततो<परैरवार्यन्त गन्धर्वै: कुरुसैनिका: । ते वार्यमाणा गन्धर्वै: साम्नैव वसुधाधिप,ततस्ते खेचरा: सर्वे चित्रसेने न््यवेदयन् । राजन! उस समय दूसरे-दूसरे गन्धर्वोने शान्तिपूर्ण वचनोंद्वारा ही कौरव सैनिकोंको रोका। रोकनेपर भी उन गन्धर्वोकी अवहेलना करके वे समस्त सैनिक उस महान् वनके भीतर प्रविष्ट हो गये। जब राजा दुर्योधनसहित समस्त कौरव वाणीद्वारा मना करनेपर न रुके, तब आकाशमें विचरनेवाले उन सभी गन्धर्वोने राजा चित्रसेनसे यह सारा समाचार निवेदन किया
tato 'parair avāryanta gandharvaiḥ kuru-sainikāḥ | te vāryamāṇā gandharvaiḥ sāmnaiva vasudhādhipa, tatas te khecarāḥ sarve citrasenam nyavedayan |
Vaiśampāyana disse: Então os soldados dos Kurus foram contidos por outros Gandharvas. Contudo, embora os Gandharvas os detivessem apenas com palavras conciliadoras e pacíficas, aquelas tropas desprezaram o aviso e avançaram. Quando os Kauravas, com o rei Duryodhana entre eles, não pararam apesar de serem dissuadidos verbalmente, todos aqueles Gandharvas que percorrem o céu relataram todo o ocorrido ao rei Citrasena.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Gentle, peace-oriented counsel (sāman) is a dharmic first response; ignoring rightful warnings out of pride leads to escalation and the loss of moral standing, inviting stronger corrective action.
Gandharvas attempt to stop the Kuru troops with conciliatory words, but the soldiers disregard them and proceed; the Gandharvas then report the situation to their leader, King Citrasena, setting up the ensuing confrontation.
