सर्वत्र च दयावन्त: सन्त: करुणवेदिन:,जो सर्वत्र दया करते हैं, जिनके हृदयमें करुणाकी अनुभूति होती है, वे श्रेष्ठ पुरुष इस लोकमें अत्यन्त संतुष्ट रहकर धर्मके उत्तम पथपर चलते हैं। जिन्होंने धर्मको अपनाये रखनेका दृढ़ निश्चय कर लिया है, वे ही महात्मा सदाचारी हैं
sarvatra ca dayāvantaḥ santaḥ karuṇavedinaḥ |
O caçador disse: “Aqueles que são compassivos em toda parte — pessoas boas que realmente sentem a dor dos outros — vivem neste mundo com profunda satisfação e seguem o excelente caminho do dharma. Somente os que tomaram a firme resolução de sustentar o dharma são de grande alma e verdadeiramente virtuosos.”
व्याध उवाच
Compassion (dayā/karuṇā) expressed universally is a hallmark of the truly good; such people remain content and naturally walk the highest path of dharma. True greatness lies in a firm resolve to uphold dharma through consistent right conduct.
In the Vana Parva’s dialogue where the hunter (Vyādha) instructs a seeker, he defines who deserves to be called noble and virtuous: those who feel others’ suffering, practice compassion everywhere, and steadfastly maintain dharma.
