व्याध उवाच
The verse foregrounds svadharma: rulers are to sustain their lives and governance by adhering to their rightful duty, and by actively applying themselves to the responsibilities that uphold order and welfare.
The Vyādha (hunter) continues his instruction on dharma, turning to the conduct of kings: he begins describing how rulers should live by their prescribed duty and properly engage in the actions required of their station.
