Kailāsa-darśana, Badarī-vāsa, and Sarasvatī–Dvaitavana Transition (कैलासदर्शन–बदरीवास–सरस्वतीद्वैतवनगमनम्)
तपसोडन््ते ततस्ताभ्यां स्वयम्भूरदद् वरम् अगृल्लीतां वरं ते तु सुतानामल्पदुःखताम्,मातलिने कहा--पार्थ! दैत्यकुलकी कन्या पुलोमा तथा महान् असुरवंशकी कन्या कालका--उन दोनोंने एक हजार दिव्य वर्षोतक बड़ी भारी तपस्या की। तदनन्तर तपस्या पूर्ण होनेपर भगवान् ब्रह्माजीने उन दोनोंको वर दिया। उन्होंने यही वर माँगा कि “हमारे पुत्रोंका दुःख दूर हो जाय”
tapasodante tataḥ tābhyāṃ svayambhūr adad varam | agṛhlītāṃ varaṃ te tu sutānām alpa-duḥkhatām ||
Arjuna disse: “Quando suas austeridades se completaram, o Senhor Auto-nascido, Brahmā, concedeu às duas um dom. Mas elas escolheram este: que seus filhos sofressem pouquíssima dor—isto é, que a aflição de seus filhos fosse removida.”
अजुन उवाच
Austerity (tapas) is portrayed as spiritually potent, yet the chosen boon shows a common ethical tension: even great ascetics may prioritize the welfare of their children, illustrating both compassion and attachment.
After two beings complete their austerities, Brahmā offers a boon; they request that their sons be free from (or have only minimal) suffering.
